We could imagine a line of skin care products as good for the environment as they were for our skin—cleansing as well as hydrating, natural yet effective. Products so natural we could eat them—after all, our skin is one of the most absorbent organs on the body and we are what we eat. We wanted a simple selection of essential products that would eliminate the mess in our medicine cabinets and dopp kits. A line of products so nourishing and well-designed it would seem mother nature invented them herself. and they should smell great, too.
We could imagine it, but we couldn’t find these products anywhere. Finally, we took matters into our own hands. The result is Gaffer&Child, a line of timeless personal care products made in small batches from organic, plant-based ingredients.
Gaffer&Child’s line of wholesome and effective products are designed in Los Angeles and produced in the United States. Made with sustainably sourced ingredients, by skincare experts who have been making organic small batch products for decades, Gaffer&Child offers a clean solution to your daily personal care routine.
But Gaffer&Child provides more than just great products and service, we represent a lifestyle and philosophy of caring about our wellbeing as well as our environment.
Grigore of Gaffer&Child
1. What inspired you to create your brand?
I started caring about skincare at a very young age. Being the oldest child with a single parent was difficult for me, and during that time I found comfort in self-care routines. Masks, scrubs, anything that smelled good and felt good. As I grew older I was disappointed with the options available in stores, none of the products were in line with my core beliefs. Anyone that knows me knows that living mindfully, eating conscientiously, and fitness are a huge part of my life. I wanted to create products that were in keeping with those values, and would make others feel good. I started Gaffer&Child so I could be a part of your morning routine, I wanted to be the one that made you smile every morning, while making sure the products that make you smile make others smile too (family farms with fairly paid and fairly treated employees). I wanted to create a routine that would spread consciousness through the community, not be just another brand to choose from.
2. If you could go back to the beginning of the creation of your brand what would you do differently?
I would’ve started earlier. I had to hit a point in my life where I just wasn’t concerned with what others thought of me. It's difficult to be male in an industry dominated by women without focusing exclusively on men’s skincare. We’ve designed a concise line of basics that can be shared between partners and generations. Our products can be used by children without worry. We've put a lot of thought into making products that are versatile while maintaining the best possible quality.
3. What advice do you have to offer for those entrepreneurs in the green beauty industry just starting out?
Don’t worry about what other people are doing or saying. You should be most concerned about what your soul is craving, and be true to that. Everyone's path is different, so it's important to satisfy that hunger to express your true self. When you do, doors will open for you, and you’ll know you’re on the right path.
4. What is your favorite product you have created and why?
I literally take my hydrating serum with me everywhere. Filled with essential oils, it is food for your skin. I use it to freshen up mid-day, touch on dry areas, cuticles, and on my hair. It’s meant to be used for face, but it can be used everywhere. And it smells great, so it always picks me up.
5. How do you juggle your life with such huge demands from your company?
The company is my life. It’s the first line of work that has been the truest to who I am as an individual. It speaks to my soul, and I am rejuvenated by happy customers. There’s nothing that brings me more joy.
6. What is your morning and evening beauty routine?
Fitness is a huge part of my beauty routine, along with hydrating. Working up to a sweat--and drinking plenty of water so it comes easily--is like cleaning the skin from the inside. On days when I shave, I give myself what I like to call “the perfect shave.” I scrub, shave, cleanse, moisturize. On days where I just need some self-love, I scrub, cleanse, and moisturize as my facial. I do mix in some simple masks when time allows, to extract impurities, but one of the reasons our line is so streamlined is that I take a "less is more" approach to skincare.
7. What ingredients are never added to any of your products?
We never use parabens, preservatives, or synthetics. We never test on a animals, and we never use ingredients that have been subject to chemical pesticides or herbicides. We never use ingredients sourced from farms with unfair labor practices. But just as important is what we do use in our products. Our ingredients are organic and plant-based. In addition to vital minerals and nutrients, plants have an important energy, and we process everything in house to make sure we get the most of every ingredient we use. I like to say our skincare has love energy that gets infused into the product when each unit is crafted by hand.
8. What is the best beauty advice you have received?
Keep it simple.
9. What sets you apart from the sea of competition?
We offer a full satisfaction guarantee to our customers. I don’t know many skincare lines that stand behind their product that way. In addition, we’re crafting all of our own hydrosols, and extracting our own essential oils to put together this beautiful line. Every unit is handled with love and the utmost attention to detail. We’re committed to giving our customer the best quality product, and that means we have to create everything in small batches and give things a little more attention. And we’re okay with that. We’ve put together a unique line that should be shared within families across America. We want to reinstate the tradition of teaching skin care routines across generations, and encourage that through high quality ingredients that are extracted with care. We're doing our part by offering a collection of products that are the bare essentials of a proper skincare regimen. Essentially we’re giving you what you need, and not trying to complicate it with gender marketing, or 13 step facials, or biosciences. We keep it real.
