If you are in the making resolution mood, then make a resolution to clock more hours of SLEEP. New Year, New less sleep deprived YOU. Sure we are used to making the normal resolutions of losing weight, eating healthier, drinking more water, cursing less, saving more money, blah blah blah, but resolving to sleep MORE can help in all of these areas.

Let me explain more about getting more shut eye. There are a plethora of reasons that sleeping a full 8 hours is amazing for you but it goes further than banishing those dark under eye circles, which is reason enough to clock the full 8 hours, am I right ladies?! Because there are so many reasons, I have decided to pick the 5 I feel are most important!

1: Lack of sleep means eating aimlessly

Sleep deprivation causes an increase in the levels of ghrelin, a hunger hormone, causing the receptors in your body that indicate you are full to not respond. This means you won’t know when you are full and when you are actually hungry. This means you will be constantly hungry causing that number on the scale to creep up. So basically if you get more sleep you will most likely eat fewer calories, meaning you are more likely to hit that resolution of losing weight. SCORE!

2: Sleeping more can improve concentration and overall productivity

A certain study found that poor sleep can impair the brains functioning a lot like alcohol can. Meaning, you don’t even have to have that cocktail at the party yet STILL feel hungover in the morning. Good sleep, is linked to better problem solving and enhanced memory performance.

3: Better sleep makes you a better athlete

Longer sleep has shown to significantly improve speed, accuracy, reaction times, and mental wellbeing. This also leads to better workouts with more focus and determination to give you that new years bod

4: Better sleep means a better immune system

Sleeping less makes you three times more likely to develop a cold over people that get their daily 8 hours. So sleep more to make the common cold a lot less common.

5: Losing sleep means losing your social life.

The last thing we want to do this new year is lose our social life. Unfortunately as you lose sleep you also lose the ability to interact with people socially. Researchers believe that the lack of sleep can make you miss important social cues and affects the way you process emotional information. So if you don’t want to be the loser at the party, get more sleep!
